Technology Description: Probuphine is an implantable system containing buprenorphine hydrochloride, which is an opioid partial agonist drug intended to ease symptoms of withdrawal and opioid cravings. The implantable system allows for extended release of the drug.
Patient Population: Probuphine is intended for treatment of opioid dependence in patients who have achieved and maintained low-to-moderate daily doses of sublingual buprenorphine.
Clinical Alternatives: Alternatives to Probuphine that are appropriate for outpatient use include sublingual or oral buprenorphine, sublingual buprenorphine-naloxone, oral methadone, and oral naltrexone
